Cavotec engineers have manufactured cable reels that provide electrical power for ship-to-shore (STS) container cranes that boast the highest lifting distance of any STS cranes anywhere in the world today.
The cranes at the Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) in Malaysia are also the second tallest STS cranes currently in service, with the tallest — made by Chinese crane manufacturer ZPMC for DP World — in Dubai.
For PTP, Cavotec has supplied eight electrical power reels with drums measuring 6.4 metres, and eight spreader reels with a maximum lifting distance of 73.5 metres.

This equipment will enable PTP’s container terminal to optimise container handling in terms of productivity, safety and environmental performance.
Cavotec has also built one of the world’s largest mono-spiral motorised cable reels.

With a drum diameter of 9.2 metres, and weighing in at 10,000kg, the largest drum manufactured by Cavotec was made for ZPMC so it could use the system for several STS cranes installed in ports in Asia and Europe.
