HHLA revenue and EBIT rise in first nine months of 2025
Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) achieved strong growth in the first nine months of 2025 despite continued macroeconomic pressures, geopolitical tensions and uncertainty in US trade policy.

Group revenue rose by 12.5 per cent to €1.3 billion ($1.5 billion), while EBIT increased by 25.7 per cent to €117.1 million ($135 million), improving the EBIT margin to 8.8 per cent from 7.9 per cent.

Profit after tax and minority interests reached €34.9 million ($40 million), up from €23.1 million ($26 million) a year earlier.

Jeroen Eijsink, HHLA’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “HHLA has performed well in recent months despite challenging conditions. We have increased our throughput and transport volumes, which is also reflected in our revenue and earnings performance. In the coming months, we will continue to work on positioning HHLA for the future.

“Our goal is to grow further and expand our position as a reliable partner in the industry. Even though the economic environment remains challenging, we will stay the course and push ahead with our projects.”

The Port Logistics subgroup reported a 12.8 per cent increase in revenue to €1.30 billion ($1.50 million) and a 31.7 per cent rise in EBIT to €107.4 million ($124 million), with the EBIT margin improving to 8.2 per cent. Profit after tax and minority interests increased to €29.6 million ($34.3 million). Earnings per share rose to €0.41 ($0.48).

Container throughput grew by 6.7 per cent to 4.79 million TEU, driven by higher volumes from the Far East — particularly China — as well as South America, Africa and various European seaports that continued to see temporary route shifts caused by the Red Sea conflict.

Hamburg terminals handled 4.54 million TEU, up 6.0 per cent. International terminals saw throughput rise by 23.1 per cent to 250 thousand TEU, supported by growth at HHLA PLT Italy and the resumption of seaborne handling at Container Terminal Odessa.

Segment revenue increased by 11.0 per cent to €641.8 million ($745 million), and EBIT rose by 18.3 per cent to €60.4 million ($70 million), with the margin improving to 9.4 per cent.

Intermodal transport volumes increased by 13.6 per cent to 1.50 million TEU, with rail volumes growing by 13.7 per cent and road by 13.2 per cent.

Revenue rose by 15.8 per cent to €604.1 million ($701.8 million), supported by volume growth and necessary price adjustments.

EBIT increased by 21.5 per cent to €76.2 million ($88.5 million), although construction work on major routes and high utilisation at North German seaports continued to create operational challenges.

In the Real Estate subgroup, revenue edged up to €34.8 million ($40.4 million), reflecting successful lease renewals and reletting in the Speicherstadt district, though EBIT fell by 16.9 per cent to €9.5 million ($11 million) due to one-off non-operating expenses.

Following an ad hoc disclosure on 27 October, HHLA adjusted its full-year 2025 outlook in response to rising global economic uncertainty, US trade policy developments, supply chain disruptions and extensive modernisation and automation work at Hamburg’s port facilities.

The Port Logistics subgroup now expects a significant increase in container throughput and continued strong growth in transport volumes, with revenue guidance unchanged. EBIT is now forecast at €145 to €160 million ($168 to $185 million), revised from €180 to €200 million ($209 to $232 million).

For the Real Estate subgroup, the forecast of slightly higher revenue and a strong decline in EBIT remains unchanged.

At Group level, HHLA continues to expect strong revenue growth, with EBIT now projected at €160 to €175 million ($185 to $203 million) instead of €195 to €215 million ($226 to $249 million).

In October, Jeroen Eijsink officially assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at HHLA.
