A collision between a fuel bunker ship and container vessel in Tokyo Bay over the weekend has caused damage to both ships, reports suggest.
The container ship's bow is reported to have struck the portside of the bunker ship, causing damage to both. However, both were able to continue under their own power into the Port of Kawasaki for repairs.
No injuries or spills have been reported as a result of the collision.
Police are now said to be investigating its cause, with intial reports suggesting the cargo vessel failed to manoeuver properly, within COLREG rules.
The news follows another collision, this time between container ships, in Singapore, on September, 30, in which an anchored Hanjin ship drifted into an MSC vessel, causing several empty containers to fall onto the bow of the latter vessel.
