MPA reports bulk carrier collision in China's Changjiang River

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has disclosed that a Singapore-registered bulk carrier, the Vega Dream, collided with a Japan-registered bulk ship in China’s Changjiang River.

The event occurred on 30 December 2024, at about 10:00 pm (Singapore time).

The Japanese Yangze 22 reported hull damage and is presently moored at Hengsha East Anchorage for damage investigation.

The incident caused around 9 metric tonnes of gasoline oil to flow.

The Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration (MSA), together with multiple assistance vessels dispatched by YANGZE 22’s firm, is now cleaning up the fuel oil leak.

The Shanghai MSA has informed the MPA that the issue was under control.

Both carriers are in stable condition, with no crew casualties recorded on either vessel.

The MPA has reportedly contacted the ship management firm of Yangze 22 and the Shanghai MSA to give help, and it will investigate the incident.

In December 2024, MPA launched an Expression of Interest (EOI) to explore scalable solutions for sea-based liquefied natural gas (LNG) reloading and the supply of e/bio-methane as marine fuel in the Port of Singapore.
