Busan New Container Terminal (BNCT) has become Evergreen’s new home in Busan’s New Port, with Ever Utile making its first call on April, 5 2016.

This call is part of Evergreen’s two 5,600 TEU vessel deployment on their new BEX2 service.

The service has joined the existing PHEX Ocean 3 Alliance service with CMA CGM, COSCOCS and UASC.

BNCT has completed an expansion project in 2015, which added 700,000 TEU of capacity and 16,000 TEU of empty storage areas for a new total handling capacity of 2.5 million TEU.

Further expansion of up to 3.5 million TEU are possible in the future, with BNCT being the only terminal able to construct additional capacity in New Port until 2020.

PTI previously reported that the Busan Port Authority (BPA) is planning to invest in overseas port and logistics facilities, which will take place on the back of global market analysis on the part of the BPA.

John Elliott, CEO of BNCT, said: “We are thankful for Evergreen’s confidence in BNCT’s ability to improve their offering in this market.

“We are confident that we can deliver and grow their business by providing world class service, flexibility and expanding capacity for many years to come.”
