  • BMT to provide environmental monitoring services at Australian port

BMT WBM (BMT), a subsidiary of BMT Group Ltd, has signed a six-year contract to provide environmental monitoring services to the Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd (PBPL).

Addressing the key objectives of PBPL’s environmental monitoring program will be the primary focus for BMT. This includes assessment of the health and long term trends in the condition of the local environment to determine potential impacts to the port and surrounding marine habitats. Subsequently, BMT will provide information that supports and informs port planning and management activities.

“This is a fantastic achievement for the team and builds on the extensive amount of environmental work we have done previously for PBPL and more generally across the wider Moreton Bay region,” said Tony McAlister, managing director of BMT WBM.

“We are delighted to be given the opportunity to continue working closely with PBPL to deliver a thorough, defensible and technically robust monitoring program.”

Monitoring to be undertaken by BMT includes sediment sampling and analysis, water quality, dredge turbidity, groundwater, mangrove/seagrass health, and seawall flora and fauna.

Located at Fisherman Islands, the Port of Brisbane is situated at the mouth of the Brisbane River and on the western foreshore of Moreton Bay, Queensland.
