BLT Optimise Nigerian Port Performance

Nigerian based company Tiger Shipping has formed a company to deliver what is now a legislative health and safety requirement in Nigeria for testing the safe working load of marine bollards to ensure they are fit for purpose.

Having purchased the equipment and completed operator training, BLT Ports and Marine Services Ltd, based in Lagos, are the first Licensed Service Contractor supported by Bollard Load Testing Ltd in the UK, and its first client will be Nigerian Ports and Private Jetties.

The newly formed BLT Ltd has already employed people and is seeking to expand upon this as demand for its testing service, and equipment manufacture at its South Shields, North East of England base increases.

Fact File: SME manufacturer Tyne and Wear Marine Ltd (TWM) is based at the Port of Tyne Estate at Tyne Dock in South Shields and has employed local people for 30 years. Over a two-year period of research, development, manufacturing and testing, TWM designed the multiple award-winning bollard load testing equipment and methodology, for testing the safe working load of marine mooring bollards and surrounding structure.

Fact File: BLT started trading in July, 2015 to meet the demand over the past year of multiple projects across the UK in ports, harbours and shipyards.
