Krishnapatnam Port Container Terminal has announced a new Bengal Tiger Line (BTL) feeder service that links the port to Colombo.
The new BTL feeder service (BOX-2) from KPCT to Colombo service began its maiden voyage on February 7.
KPCTs senior crane operator was given the privilege of launching the new service, in recognition of the important and valuable role being played by the ports employees in the success of the terminal.
The fixed day weekly service will follow a port rotation of Colombo – KCPT – Chennai.
All NVOCCs and Liners will be able to load on the service as it is a common carrier feeder vessel. Importers from the Andhra Pradesh hinterland will now have a direct port of access to receive cargo from Europe, USA, the Middle East, West Africa and East Africa.
Following the route, importers will be able to benefit from a shorter transit time if they choose to import their goods via KCPT. Liners have been agreeing Change of Destination (COD) requests from importers in order to re-direct to KPCT although cargo is post-transit to Colombo.
KCPT is a new container terminal located at Krishnapatnam port that has opened up immense opportunities on the east coast of India. The new terminal offers wide berth docking, container operations and warehousing storage in a single location. The port acts as an all-in-one logistics centre, providing a cost-effective global importation/exportation gateway serving the new industrial hub of India.
