As part of the sustainable movement Interreg project, Awake.AI has obtained a CO2 digital solution that will be utilised at the ports of Rauma, Pori, Norrköping, Oxelösund, Mariehamn, Tallinn, and Riga.
The digital tool will be used to report scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions in the ports of Rauma, Pori, Norrköping, Oxelösund, Mariehamn, Tallinn, and Riga.
In this project, Awake.AI creates an ICT tool for minimising and estimating CO2 emissions in ports based on logistical activities.
Pilot ports (Rauma, Pori, Norrköping, Tallinn, Oxelosund, Mariehamn, and Riga) will utilise the application to analyse and improve logistical networks.
According to Awake.AI, the primary idea behind the CO2 and logistics activity ICT application is to detect various emission sources, compute emissions, and give complete and up-to-date data and reports on scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.

The solution will guide ports to improve their energy efficiency and decrease their CO2 emissions.
CO2 emissions are reduced by the Sustainable Flow project on flow of goods in intermodal/multimodal transport systems.
Real-life pilots are used to install the system at maritime and land transport nodes.
Seven multimodal transport nodes, including Rauma, Pori, Mariehamn, Norrköping, Oxelösund, Tallinn, and Riga, aim to reduce CO2 emissions.

The project provides decision-making tools and practical solutions for varied stakeholders to reduce CO2 emissions in intermodal/multimodal transportation networks both during and after the project.
The cooperation brings together diverse companies to ensure that the best possible information, methodologies, and solutions are employed.
Sustainable Flow is reportedly the first initiative that focuses on developing digital solutions as well as energy savings and renewable energy to minimise CO2 emissions in the transportation industry, particularly marine and ports.
By the project’s completion, CO2 emissions in pilot ports are expected to be decreased by 10 per cent on average (compared to baseline 0).
According to Awake.AI, the project partners are:
- Swedish Maritime Administration
- Satakunta University of Applied Sciences Ltd
- Swedish Confederation of Transport Enterprises
- Åland University of Applied Sciences
- Tallinn Technical University. Taltech Estonian Maritime Academy
- International Transport Development Association
- Finntraffic VTS
Dr. Jussi Poikonen, Co-founder and VP of AI & Analytics at Awake.AI, said: “We will collect emission data straight from sources provided by ports through APIs, estimate emissions where needed based on standards and best practices, and enable manual data inputs by users of the system. The tool will provide ports an up to date view of their emissions, enabling them to develop their operations to be more sustainable.”
