Port Houston boosts efficiency with Kaleris' RTG Optimisation
Kaleris has completed a multi-phase deployment of its RTG Optimisation (RTG-O) solution at Port Houston, which operates two of the nation’s busiest container terminals.

The system has improved yard crane productivity by up to 20 per cent, streamlined workflows for operators and dispatchers, and enhanced data visibility to support demand-driven decisions.

Managing 142 RTG cranes and up to 12,000 daily truck visits across Barbours Cut and Bayport, Port Houston sought a smarter way to optimise operations.

Kaleris partnered closely with the port and the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) to map end-to-end processes, align workflows with RTG-O logic, and strengthen real-time decision-making.

Chief Port Operations Officer, Ryan Mariacher, said: “Implementing this new system was truly a collaboration between Port Houston, the ILA, and Kaleris. RTG-O works in tandem with the skilled labour of the ILA and elevates our terminal performance. With container volumes forecasted to continue growing, RTG-O helps us deliver our value proposition as a low-cost, high-service provider to customers and partners.”

The rollout began in a small section of the yard to allow continuous learning, with custom filters and workflow adjustments improving operator experience and system performance.

Currently, RTG-O delivers measurable gains even under heavy traffic and complex yard conditions, enabling smarter fleet management and more efficient RTG moves.

Kaleris CEO, Kirk Knauff, said: “Port Houston is an outstanding example of what’s possible when forward-thinking terminal operators and technology providers work together.

“This success underscores Kaleris’ commitment to delivering Advanced Optimisation solutions that empower terminal teams to improve productivity, agility and resilience.”

In September 2025, Kaleris launched Terminal Insights, a new solution aimed at helping marine terminals reduce bottlenecks and improve operational performance through real-time data visibility and embedded consulting.
