What do you see as the biggest opportunity for Latin American ports and terminals in the next 12–24 months, particularly around automation and digitalisation?
I see the biggest opportunity in using automation and digitalisation more strategically. Rather than treating technology as an end in itself, Latin American ports can leverage these initiatives to strengthen governance, improve decision-making and develop workforce capabilities. Over the next 12-24 months, the focus should be on aligning digital investments with real operational needs and long-term sector development.
Which innovation or technology trend do you believe will have the most impact on operational resilience and efficiency in container terminals?
I believe the most impactful trend may not be a specific technology, but the growing recognition that many operational problems, previously hidden or poorly understood, are becoming visible. Digital tools such as digital twins, equipment telemetry and other solutions make inefficiencies explicit by revealing data inconsistencies, process gaps, and structural constraints. Terminals willing to use technology to identify and address these underlying issues, while continuing to improve their practices, will gain a real advantage in operational efficiency.
What key message or insight are you most looking forward to sharing with the CTAC Americas 2026 audience during your session?
I look forward to sharing how closer collaboration between academia and industry can help ports and terminals turn operational challenges into innovation opportunities, while creating new pathways for young professionals and strengthening the future workforce of the sector.
