At least 84 people, including children, have been killed after a gunmen at the wheel of a lorry drove two kilometres down the Promenade des Anglais while people were celebrating Bastille Day in Nice, Southern France, according to reports.
The driver targeted a whole host of people as they were watching the fireworks as part of the evening’s celebrations for Bastille Day.
The attack is said to be terrorist in nature, with police having to open fire on the attacker, who was a 31-year-old Tunisian-born Frenchman.
The suspect was shot dead at the scene.
The driver had reportedly zig-zagged through the promenade in order to hit more people and was known to police for acts of violence.
Francois Hollande, President of France, has confirmed that the attacks appear to be of a terrorist nature and stated that France is “at war” with Islamic Fundamentalism.
