APM Terminals (APMT) Valencia has inaugurated two new Triple-E ship-to-shore (STS) cranes and completed upgrades to the Levante Quay.
The Levante Quay at APMT Valencia is now capable of handling two large container vessels simultaneously.
Speaking from the terminal’s new maintenance facility, Julián Fernández, Managing Director of APM Terminals Spanish Gateways, emphasised the €28.7 million ($33 million) investment as a strategic commitment to the Port of Valencia, innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence in a highly competitive market.

During the event—held as Maersk Hamburg and Maersk Hidalgo were berthed at Llovera and Levante quays—attendees, including port authorities and customers, were presented with an overview of the project timeline, from crane delivery in September 2024 to assembly, commissioning, and quay reinforcements for mega-ship berthing.
The ceremony concluded with a symbolic handover of the cranes by Declan O’Sullivan and David Cano of Liebherr, followed by a guided terminal tour showcasing the cranes in full operation.
In April, APMT Valencia launched a solar energy project to support the company’s goal of reaching carbon neutrality by 2040. Launched in December 2024, the project will install 1,674 solar panels across terminal rooftops, covering 4,752 square metres (m²).
