APM Terminals Mobile (APMT Mobile) has hosted the largest vessel to ever call the US Gulf as it looks forward to terminal expansion.
The mega vessel reaches a total capacity of 11,356 TEU.
The deal has been signed in agreement with the Alabama State Port Authority (ASPA) and represents the third expansion in the last six years – as importers expand their volumes to meet regional consumer demand and tap into the rail service to the Midwest US market.
Container volumes at the Port of Mobile saw a 6 per cent dip in May 2022, only handling 43,865 TEU.
The port has pinned the decline on the volatility of Trans-Pacific trade, directly associated with recent lockdowns in China.
