APMT has concession extended

APM Terminals (APMT) has add its concession of the Muelle de Juan Carol I terminal extended by the Port Authority of Algeciras until November 2032.

In a statement, the terminal operator said the application process was initiated by virtue of Royal Decree Law 8/2014 of July 4 and Temporary Provision 10 of the Port Law.

It followed a favourable report from the Spanish Government Agency for State Ports.

APM Terminals has committed to making significant investments in the terminal, including the acquisition of 12 RTG cranes, the automation of the gate and the installation of 500 additional plugs for reefer containers.

The Port of Algeciras Authority has made a number of investments to improve container handling and operations.

Earlier in February 2021 it awarded a project worth $2.04 million to develop its Port Risk Optimised Advanced System to a joint venture comprising Oritia & Boras, Ayesa Advanced Technologies and the Polytechnic University of Madrid.
