German modular builder Algeco purchases five Konecranes E-VER electric forklifts

Germany’s Algeco GmbH has ordered five Konecranes E-VER electric forklifts fitted with modified spreaders to handle special containers used to construct modular buildings.

The forklifts will be delivered to Algeco’s facilities in Paderborn and Stockstadt in Q3 2024.

Algeco is a global leader in modular construction. They make special room-like containers that can be assembled into housing, office and classroom spaces. Algeco ordered the E-VER electric forklifts to both enhance capacity as well as reduce emissions from its operations.

The order is for five Konecranes E-VER 12-1200C forklifts with a fully electric driveline and a capacity of 12 tonnes. Each machine has been specially adapted with inverted forks, a reinforced mast and more counterweight than a standard forklift to keep them stable while stacking 7-tonne modular containers up to three high.

The forklifts have a compact design enabling easy maneuverability in confined spaces. Their customized spreaders accommodate containers ranging from 2.9 to 6.1 metres in length and 2.2 to 2.8 metres in width.

Powered by lithium-ion batteries, the forklifts offer efficient performance, rapid charging, and zero tailpipe emissions. Requiring minimal maintenance due to their reduced mechanical components, they also generate less waste.

Optimised weight distribution reportedly contributes to smooth handling and acceleration, both loaded and unloaded. Equipped with advanced sensors for diagnostics and performance monitoring, the forklifts are designed to enhance safety and efficiency.

Operator control is facilitated by a joystick for mast and spreader operation. To prioritise safety, the forklift’s maximum speed is limited to 10 kilometres per hour during general operations and 5 kilometres per hour when lifting loads above 5 metres.

“Because our modular building concept is based around sustainability, we’ve always striven to minimise emissions,” said Dominik Jungmann, Fleet and Logistics Manager, Algeco.

“The Konecranes E-VERs we ordered are a fully electric version of our other Konecranes forklifts, and we’re confident they will deliver the same high performance and increase our productivity even more.”

“Algeco is already operating a fleet of 23 Konecranes 12-tonne forklifts, and this new order proves the strength and versatility of the E-VER in specialist applications, all on electric power,” added Hans-Jürgen Haupt, Sales Manager, Lift Trucks, Konecranes.

“We’re pleased our technology and expertise will play a role in helping Algeco expand its business even further.”

Last month, INTERGIS Co. Ltd. purchased a Konecranes Gottwald ESP.5 Mobile Harbor Crane to increase general cargo and bulk handling capacity at the Port of Busan in South Korea.
