AIS: Connecting the Industry Globally

Significant benefits are emerging for members of PTI’s Approved Industry Suppliers portal – AIS – and Rahul Nair, Head of Global Partnerships at Port Technology, has provided a lowdown on what the new platform can offer its members.

AIS is a new portal that gives visibility to companies in the ports and terminals sector that wish to deliver a message or vital services to a global market, as well as providing a one-stop shop for information and knowledge about leading service providers and new innovations.

The launch of AIS follows two years of conversations with key industry stakeholders, ports and knowledge partners, initiated to bring the sector closer by gathering major suppliers in one place.

“We have seen a lot of movement towards modernization and the take-up of new technologies, as the world’s ports tackle issues of over-capacity, competitive pressures and widespread demands for greater efficiency,” Nair said.

“Companies on the front foot need a single centralised place for communicating technical information. This is exactly what AIS provides, under the reputable banner of Port Technology.”

Every member of AIS gains its own micro-site: a dedicated location online for publishing news releases and technical articles, as well as any other key information the supplier chooses.

Nair further explained how the portal functions and the advantages it offers: “The AIS goes a lot further because it has been developed under the Port Technology banner. Suppliers signing up to AIS are vetted by us, and the information is reputable and approved.”

The AIS also benefits from being promoted through the Port Technology website and news hub. Members’ technical papers or whitepapers – featured on the AIS – can be linked to relevant subject areas covered on the Port Technology website.

The Port Technology journal, highly regarded by the industry as a source of information on the latest technological developments in the ports and terminals industry, is published online every month, while two print editions are also released every year.

“There is the potential for members to generate real business leads from reaching the right people – buyers and decision makers – and the fact that the material has the oversight of Port Technology’s editorial team makes AIS such an exciting prospect,” Nair added.

More than four fifths of Port Technology’s audience are involved in the business of managing and developing ‘mega-ship ready’ ports and terminals, and 78% have an active interest in port automation and optimization.

The interaction between the platform and Port Technology’s online presence has allowed AIS to gain early traction, with approved companies already populating their AIS pages with company data, technical information and articles.

According to Nair, the launch of AIS has created a great deal of interest in discussions with industry suppliers.

“It’s an enthused industry community. I’ve discussed AIS with a long list of our partners, and many have been very enthusiastic about the idea behind AIS.”
