Adriatic Gate Container Terminal (AGCT), International Container Terminal Services, Inc.’s (ICTSI) operation in the Port of Rijeka in Croatia, has installed white noise reversing alarms on two of its rail-mounted gantry cranes (RMGs).
The RMGs, chosen for their closeness to residential areas, now have an innovative alarm system to limit noise pollution.
According to ICTSI, white noise reversing alarms provide a quieter, more localised sound, similar to a soothing hiss, rather than the high-pitched beeps of typical alarms.
This focused sound concentrates on the immediate area surrounding the crane, limiting noise spillage from the terminal.

Furthermore, the alarms alter their volume automatically based on the time of day and ambient noise levels, resulting in quieter functioning at night.
This adaptability reduces disruptions to surrounding households while keeping terminal safety standards.
According to ICTSI, the installation of white noise alarms also improves safety by producing a continuous, immediately identifiable sound, allowing workers and pedestrians to recognise moving equipment more efficiently, even in low-visibility conditions.
