Automation specialist ABB’s tabletop operator control unit of its new Remote Control Station (RCS) won the prestigious ‘red dot award’ of 2014, which ABB exhibited during the recent TOC Europe.
ABB triumphed over the competition of 1,800 manufacturers, designers and architects from 53 nations.
40 experts analysed the level of innovation, functionality, durability and ecological compatibility in each submitted design.
Head of ABB’s marine and cranes business, Heikki Soljama, stated that: “The new design of the RCS tabletop unit was created following ABB’s ‘Operator in Focus’ concept. This addresses crane operators’ performance as the container handling industry continues to expand the scope of remote operations and searches for ways to improve productivity as ships get larger and cranes taller.”
The ABB Group operates in around 100 countries worldwide and also won the red dot award in 2013; reflecting the consistent level of innovation the company is known for.
