ABB and Ericsson Strike Industry 4.0 Collaboration

Robotics experts ABB have teamed up with Ericsson to accelerate wireless automation for flexible factories and bring 5G and Industry 4.0 into the industrial ecosystem.

According to a statement, the two companies signed a Memorandum-of-Understanding (MoU) at Hannover Messe 2019, the world’s leading trade show for industrial technology.

The MoU will establish a joint vision for the future of flexible production with automation and wireless communication and confirm ABB and Ericsson’s commitment to exploring new business opportunities in the industrial ecosystem.    

 

 

The two parties are already fast-tracking the introduction of a new generation of intelligent factory technologies, with Ericsson deploying an automation system at its manufacturing facilities in Tallinn, Estonia.

To that end, ABB has provided a fully automated flexible robotics cell solution that assembles 5G radios for Ericsson.

Speaking about the new partnership, ABB CEO Ulrich Spiesshofer said: “We are very excited to extend our partnership with Ericsson as the world moves closer to the era of 5G technology.

“ABB’s leadership in digital industries combined with Ericsson’s pioneering work in connectivity will open up new opportunities for customers to enhance productivity and competitiveness by digitalizing their businesses.”
