“This event gives our community an opportunity to take automation to the next level both in terms of deployment of automation and in terms of discussing the future expectations on automation. As the mega trends impacting any business and industry, automation and IT together will enable new level of connectivity in the container handling chain, and we can anticipate many exciting developments in the near future.”

“Who knows, maybe many of them will have their origin in this event.”

Bryfors concluded: “Last year was the year of change in the industry. The new shipping world with re-grouped alliances and fewer shipping lines was formed and this will fundamentally change the business environment for the terminals as well.

“This will require terminals to be very flexible. How will terminals respond to that requirement? Speaking of flexibility, it would be great to see the industry players jointly continue the discussion on flexible container sizes from last year’s conference. We need to get additional types of goods into containers and fully utilize the high capacity cranes now in operation.

“In the new terminal world with peak volumes, periods of low activity and possibly, bigger containers, automation is the key enabler of flexibility.”
