US transportation secretary Anthony Foxx has recently highlighted a US$20 million Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant for the Port of Seattle.

The US$20 million TIGER grant awarded to the Port of Seattle will help strengthen and extend an ageing dock, enabling it able to accommodate two post-Panamax ships at a time, according to the Maritime-Executive.

The investment will also allow the port to improve safety and reduce roadway congestion by constructing a separate truck ramp with more direct access to the port’s intermodal yard.

State of Washington Senator Patty Murray's office says the money will modernise Terminal 46, a container terminal critical to Washington’s exports.
