MITSUI E&S develops smart platform for Shimizu Port

MITSUI E&S Co., Ltd. has signed a contract to develop and deploy a new service platform at the Shimizu Port Container Terminal.

This platform integrates the Terminal Operation System (TOS) with the dispatch systems of container haulage companies. The terminal is operated by Suzuyo Co., Ltd.

The newly launched service enables real-time data sharing between the terminal and container haulage companies, which previously operated with separate systems.

By linking information such as truck arrival schedules and cargo details from container haulage companies with vessel loading/unloading plans and crane operation status from the terminal, the platform streamlines operations across the entire facility.

For Terminal Operators: Advance awareness of truck arrivals allows for optimised container placement and equipment preparation.

For Container Haulage Companies: Access to terminal congestion data enables more efficient dispatch planning.

In addition, MITSUI E&S has introduced a new feature called “Lanescope＊1: Recommended Lane＊2 Ranking Display.” This tool analyses real-time congestion within the terminal and ranks container lanes based on operational smoothness.

Container haulage companies can select containers from less congested lanes, while terminal operators can avoid scheduling conflicts between vessel and truck operations, resulting in improved overall efficiency.

Since 2024, MITSUI E&S has also been providing a service called “Trucker View” at the terminal. This solution allows truck drivers to check container locations and lane accessibility using smartphones or tablets, significantly reducing the on-site operational workload.

Looking ahead, MITSUI E&S plans to integrate the newly developed features into its proprietary dispatch system, TO (Truck Operation Management System), further enhancing efficiency across both port and land transportation operations.

By expanding the scope of this data collaboration framework, MITSUI E&S aims not only to maximise port productivity but also to address broader social challenges such as labour shortages, ultimately contributing to the realisation of a sustainable logistics infrastructure.

Earlier this summer, MITSUI E&S announced it will develop a hydrogen refuelling system after winning selection for a government-backed project supporting the widespread adoption of hydrogen-powered cargo handling equipment at port terminals.
