METRANS and INTERPORT have launched a project to modernise an intermodal terminal near Košice, Slovakia, creating a new logistics hub on the EU’s eastern border.
The upgraded facility — TIP Košice (Terminál Intermodálnej Prepravy) — is set to become a major hub in Eastern Europe’s transport network, designed to support integrated logistics development, sustainable growth, and improved regional connectivity.
The partners plan to transform the site into a multifunctional logistics hub anchored by one of Slovakia’s most advanced intermodal terminals.
Digital and automated systems will support operations, while dual-gauge infrastructure; combining standard and broad-gauge tracks; will enable efficient transfer of cargo arriving on broad-gauge rail, including traffic from Ukraine, onto Europe’s standard-gauge network. Two gantry cranes will streamline transshipment between both systems.
