A.P. Moller-Maersk (Maersk) will introduce Port Additionals covering both exports and imports at Port Chalmers, New Zealand, effective 1 July 2026.
The surcharges, designated PAE (Port Additionals Export) and PAI (Port Additionals Import), apply to all container sizes on trades between Port Chalmers and worldwide destinations.
Rates are denominated in New Zealand dollars and structured as follows: NZD 35 ($20) per 20-foot container and NZD 70 ($41) per 40-foot or 45-foot container, applicable in both directions.
PAE charges are collected at the origin, while PAI charges are collected at the destination.
For non-spot bookings, the Price Calculation Date (PCD) is based on the scheduled departure date of the first water leg at the time of booking confirmation for non-FMC trades.
For Federal Maritime Commission (FMC)-regulated trades, the PCD corresponds to the last container gate-in date.

For spot bookings, rates are calculated based on the first vessel’s estimated time of departure (ETD) at booking confirmation.
Maersk notes that the above rates remain subject to additional applicable surcharges, including local and contingency charges, and do not supersede or interact with any tariffs filed under local regulatory requirements.
For trades governed by the US Shipping Act or China Maritime Regulations, any quotations or surcharges deviating from the Maersk tariff are not binding unless incorporated into a filed service contract with the FMC or the Shanghai Shipping Exchange.
