Klaipėda Port has increased its cargo throughput by 11 per cent year-on-year (YoY) in the first nine months of 2025, handling a total of 28.7 million tonnes.
Container and RoRo traffic made up the largest share, with notable increases in LNG and construction materials.
Algis Latakas, CEO of Klaipėda State Seaport Authority, said: “Klaipėda Port’s cargo statistics reflect more than numbers – they mirror economic activity, energy independence, and major infrastructure projects. These results show that even in challenging times, we continue to invest and pursue ambitious projects.”
Container volumes grew by 31 per cent to nearly 9.6 million tonnes, while LNG and construction materials each rose 23 per cent to around 1.7 million tonnes.
The FSRU Independence continues to play a strategic role, following Lithuania’s move to halt Russian gas imports. Growth in construction materials is tied to active road and rail projects.

RoRo volumes rose 6 per cent to nearly 5 million tonnes, oil products increased 2 per cent to almost 3 million tonnes, and passenger traffic climbed 8 per cent.
Over the same period, two new ships were built and 52 were repaired.
However, scrap metal and wood handling declined by 18 per cent and 16 per cent respectively, with most wood exports bound for Scandinavia.

Fertiliser volumes dropped 13 per cent, largely due to sanctions halting imports from Russia and Belarus; current flows mainly come from Lithuanian producers Achema and Lifosa. Grain exports also declined 10 per cent, reflecting harvest levels and domestic demand.
Despite mixed performance across cargo segments, Klaipėda remains the leading port in the Baltics with a 41 per cent market share, ahead of Riga (17.5 per cent), Tallinn (14.6 per cent), Ventspils (just over 9 per cent), and Liepaja (just over 7 per cent).
In early October, Klaipėda Port handled 1 million TEUs — its earliest achievement of this benchmark to date.
