Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) has reported a successful first half of 2025, with double-digit increases in revenue, throughput and operating results despite ongoing global and economic challenges.
Revenue in the HHLA Group rose 16.3 per cent year-on-year to €884.5 million ($973 million), while the operating result (EBIT) increased 34.8 per cent to €79.4 million ($87.3 million).
The EBIT margin improved to 9.0 per cent (previous year: 7.7 per cent). Profit after tax and minority interests reached €19.1 million ($21.0 million).
CEO Angela Titzrath said: “Despite geopolitical tension and economic uncertainty, HHLA fared very successfully in the first half of 2025.
“The Intermodal segment recorded particularly strong revenue growth thanks to an increase in road and rail transport. Container handling at the terminals also rose significantly. This underscores the effectiveness of our integrated Europe-wide logistics solutions.
“Our performance also demonstrates that HHLA is well placed to navigate safely through an environment that remains volatile – and to continue its growth as it looks to the future.”
The Port Logistics subgroup recorded a revenue rise of 16.6 per cent to €865.7 million ($952 million) and EBIT growth of 40.1 per cent to €72.4 million ($79.6 million), with a margin of 8.4 per cent.
Container segment throughput grew 7.9 per cent to 3.17 million TEUs.
At Hamburg terminals, volumes rose 6.9 per cent to 3 million TEUs, supported by strong growth in Far East trade, especially with China, and additional cargo via European seaports due to Red Sea route adjustments.
International terminals saw throughput climb 28.7 per cent to 165,000 TEUs, driven by HHLA PLT Italy and the resumption of operations at Container Terminal Odesa. Segment revenue rose 12.6 per cent to €426.2 million ($469 million).
Intermodal segment transport volumes rose 19.6 per cent to 997,000 TEUs, with rail transport up 20.2 per cent and road transport up 16.0 per cent. Revenue increased 22.2 per cent to €400.5 million ($440 million), with EBIT climbing 23.1 per cent to €48.2 million ($53.0 million).
