Edison and CMA CGM have completed Italy’s first ship-to-ship liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering operation for a container vessel.
The refuelling took place at the Port of Trieste, where Edison’s LNG carrier Ravenna Knutsen supplied fuel to the CMA CGM Salamanque, an LNG-powered containership operating in the Mediterranean.
CMA CGM, a global leader in shipping and logistics, continues to advance the sector’s energy transition.
The group operates a substantial fleet of dual-fuel LNG-powered vessels, helping to reduce carbon emissions by up to 85 per cent and paving the way for future adoption of low-carbon fuels such as biogas and e-methane.
This partnership between Edison and CMA CGM supports the wider uptake of LNG-powered ships across Italian ports.

In service for Edison since 2021, the Ravenna Knutsen is a 30,000-cubic-metre LNG carrier designed for adaptability and safety, capable of refuelling various vessel types and depots under multiple configurations.
LNG remains the most viable near-term option for reducing emissions from maritime transport. Aligned with EU ETS Maritime, FuelEU Maritime and International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations, LNG is a key transitional fuel on the path towards zero-emission alternatives such as bio-LNG and synthetic LNG.
