DP World boosts capacity on Red Sea–Gulf–India
DP World’s Marine Services arm, Shipping Solutions, has strengthened its India–Middle East corridor with the acquisition of DP World Chennai, a 5,000+ TEU container vessel now deployed on its Red Sea–Gulf–India service.

The vessel’s maiden call at Port of Jebel Ali marks a milestone for Shipping Solutions, taking owned capacity beyond 6 million TEUs and further enhancing schedule reliability across key regional markets.

Ganesh Raj, Global COO, Marine Services, DP World, said: “The acquisition of DP World Chennai enhances our capability to offer consistent and scheduled connections throughout the India–Middle East corridor.

“This initiative is not solely focused on expanding capacity; its core purpose is to enhance our product flexibility, thereby reassuring our customers that their shipments will be delivered as expected. Our customers rely on dependability and adaptability, so our solutions set us apart in contemporary supply chains.”

The acquisition aligns with DP World’s strategy to expand its network through a combination of owned vessels, continued investment, and integration between port and marine operations. Shipping Solutions recently moved up to 15th place in Alphaliner’s global Top 50 carriers ranking.

In India, DP World has outlined plans to invest $5 billion in trade-related infrastructure. Shipping Solutions has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sagarmala Finance Corporation Limited, under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, to work on coastal and shortsea shipping services.

More recently, DP World and APM Terminals (APMT) announced a strategic partnership in the Southern Container Terminal at Jeddah Islamic Port.
