Cavotec has recently supported the first-ever shore power connection of a car carrier at a European port.
The achievement took place in Bremerhaven, Germany, where the 200-metre pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) Lake Shirasagi was successfully connected to shore power.
Cavotec was responsible for making the vessel shore power ready by supplying a PowerReceive shore power system, along with commissioning services.
The system enables the safe and reliable connection between ship and shore, allowing onboard diesel generators to be shut down while alongside.
By enabling the use of shore power, the solution helps reduce CO2, nitrogen oxide, and particulate emissions during port stays, contributing to improved air quality and reduced noise in port areas.

This project marks the first shore power connection of a PCTC vessel in Europe, highlighting the growing momentum behind electrification solutions for RoRo and automotive shipping.
With shore power availability expanding across European ports, Cavotec supports shipowners with PCC and PCTC retrofit solutions to enable shore power connections on existing vessels.
