The Port Authority of Thailand (PAT) has opened a new cargo-handling facility at Bangkok Port to improve efficiency in barge cargo operations and reduce terminal congestion.
The facility is located at Warehouses 8 and 9 and covers more than 22,000 square metres. It has been developed to provide a dedicated area for LCL import cargo, which requires specific space for container opening, sorting, inspection, storage and delivery.
According to Thai media reports citing PAT, the new area is connected to the port’s internal road network and located close to the container yard, allowing cargo to be processed more efficiently.
The development is intended to improve the handling of barge-borne cargo, reduce waiting times and ease pressure on internal port operations. It will also help separate coastal barge activity from other vessel and cargo flows within Bangkok Port.

PAT said the facility is part of efforts to support growing coastal transport volumes and improve cargo movement between Bangkok Port and Thailand’s wider logistics network.
By creating a dedicated space for LCL imports, the port authority expects to make cargo handling more orderly and reduce congestion, particularly during peak operating periods.
The project forms part of wider efforts to improve operational efficiency at Bangkok Port, which continues to play an important role in Thailand’s domestic and regional cargo distribution.
