Adriatic Gate Container Terminal (AGCT), the Croatian terminal operated by International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI), has unveiled new super post-Panamax quay cranes with a 67.5-metre outreach.
The move positions the Port of Rijeka to handle the largest container vessels operating in the Mediterranean and Adriatic.
The cranes were formally presented to shipping lines, freight forwarders, rail operators and logistics stakeholders active along the Rijeka transport corridor, alongside representatives from national, regional and local authorities, including the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure and customs officials.

Manufactured by ZPMC, the quay cranes represent AGCT’s first deployment of the latest generation of super post-Panamax equipment.
Designed specifically for the terminal’s operational profile, the cranes incorporate customised load-bearing enhancements to support heavier lifts and higher productivity.
With an outreach equivalent to 24 container rows across, the equipment enables AGCT to accommodate ultra-large container vessels increasingly deployed on mainline services.
The cranes are currently undergoing commissioning and technical testing and are expected to be fully operational and deployed by the end of the year, providing an immediate boost to berth capacity, vessel turnaround times and overall terminal efficiency.

“The acquisition of these new cranes is an important first step in the continued modernisation of our terminal,” said Emmanuel Papagiannakis, AGCT CEO.
“This latest generation of equipment will enable increased capacity, faster and more efficient cargo handling, and full readiness for the largest container vessels in the Mediterranean and Adriatic.”
Papagiannakis and Denis Vukorepa, Executive Director of the Port of Rijeka Authority, jointly led the inauguration, reinforcing the alignment between terminal investment and wider port development objectives.
The quay crane delivery forms part of AGCT’s broader modernisation programme, which also includes the imminent arrival of two hybrid rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes.
Papagiannakis added: “Together with the upcoming hybrid RTG cranes and their reduced emissions, we continue to strategically invest in developing and expanding the terminal, as well as in strengthening the Rijeka transport corridor as a key gateway for Central and Southeast European markets.”
