Mar 02, 2010 Korea Gas to Invest $1.1 billion in Canadian natural gas fields Korea Gas Corp. will invest US $1.1 billion develop natural gas fields in Canada alongside local firm Encana Corp., to secure LNG shipments to South Korea.
Korea Gas has acquired a combined 50 per cent stake in three oil fields in northeast British Columbia, in the deal with the Encana Corp., the biggest natural gas company in North America.

The state-run Korean gas agency will start extracting 1.1 million tons of natural gas every year for 40 years beginning in 2017. In the meantime, it will invest $1.1 billion to build gas exploration and production facilities, the company said.

South Korea relies heavily on imports for its fuel needs. The country consumes around 25 million tons of natural gas per year and after the deal, around 3.5 percent of the nation's total gas use will be produced from South Korea's own gas extraction activities at home and abroad, the company said.

Intermodal transportation: The next wave?Holidays are almost over, for those lucky enough to go on vacation. I spent my time away from the sea, and well above sea level. Just for reassurance. As you might know, the majority of Dutch grounds are below sea level (about 65%), and we keep dry feet by pumping water. Without that, we would build our sandcastle around "Amersfoort at the Sea" (a city some 80km inland). However, spending time in the Alps, some 800m above sea level, my rectangular box driven mind did not come to a complete standstill, wondering about hinterland transportation.
