A video released recently by US Navy Research unveils a new autonomous robot that could help to decrease the risk of fire hazards aboard ships.
The robot, called the ‘Shipboard Autonomous Fire-fighting Robot’ is a two-legged humanoid designed to support ship damage control.
Dr. Thomas McKenna, Programme Officer at the Office of Naval Research, said: “Our objectives for the demo on the Shadwell were to show that the robot could walk over what was a very uneven floor, that it could orient itself to the fire, that it could autonomously handle the hose, operate the hose, aim the hose, and suppress the fire, which it succeeded in [doing].”
