The Japanese Port of Sendai was devastated by the tsunami last week.

Friday's 8.9 magnitude earthquake that rocked the north of Japan, produced a colossal tsunami that swept through the Port of Sendai.

The wave virtually destroyed the port in Miyagi Prefecture causing significant damage to the port's infrastructure, with officials predicting the port will remain closed for months or even years.

This dramatic video released on the Channel 4 news website, shows the aftermath of the devastation with containers strewn across the port and buildings completely demolished by the enormous wave.

The economic impact of the closure of Japan’s ports on Friday has been estimated at $3.4bn in lost seaborne trade, as PTI reported yesterday.

Japan’s Prime Minister, Naota Kan, said that the country was facing its worst crisis since the Second World War.
