24 Jun 2009 - Terminal Handling

Ter Haak Group is one of the fastest-growing stevedoring companies in the Port of Amsterdam, and its Amerikahaven terminal is among the first terminals in Europe to implement Genoa version 5.0 in conjunction with Spinnaker, Traffic Control, GateVision and Digital Bridge. The announcement was made at the Terminal Operations Conference and Exhibition for Europe (TOC 2009), where Tideworks was exhibiting.

Operated by Ter Haak Group’s United Stevedores Amsterdam (USA) subsidiary, the Amerikahaven terminal is currently utilizing Tideworks’ Genoa Breakbulk Management System®, which was implemented in 2002. As part of the upgrade, Ter Haak will migrate to Genoa version 5.0 and will implement Tideworks’ Spinnaker Planning Management System®, Traffic Control™, GateVision® and Digital Bridge™ to maximize efficiency of its terminal operations.

“Our business requires a comprehensive terminal operating system that can handle a wide range of cargo, including containers, ro-ro and a variety of different break-bulk cargo,” said Paul Brink, executive vice president, Ter Haak. “Tideworks truly understands the heart of our business as well as the needs of our customers. They are constantly focusing on ways to help us improve productivity and reduce costs with their industry-leading support and solutions.”

Ter Haak’s comprehensive systems upgrade will include the following Tideworks solutions:

* Genoa version 5.0: Genoa version 5.0 offers a complete multipurpose terminal solution for all cargo types. It allows Ter Haak to easily integrate with Spinnaker Planning Management System to enable them to dynamically and visually plan all container-related activities.
* Spinnaker Planning Management System: Spinnaker is a leading terminal operations software platform designed to improve efficiency by providing a flexible suite of intuitive, graphical planning tools for container operations.
* Traffic Control: Traffic Control leverages electronic dispatch of work instructions and dynamic control of container-handling equipment to improve productivity and maximize equipment utilization.
* GateVision: GateVision combines all of the key components of gate transactions into a single user interface to effortlessly collect all required transactional data from cameras strategically located in the gate lanes.
* Digital Bridge: Digital Bridge enables terminal managers to monitor terminal activities and performance with real-time graphics and key performance indicators. This empowers managers to proactively and effectively address challenges at the terminals.

“Today, many multipurpose terminal operators are relying on outdated systems to manage a variety of tasks. These operators are looking for a seamless, fast and reliable solution that will allow them to upgrade their terminal operations platforms without any service disruptions to their customers,” commented Michael Schwank, president, Tideworks Technology. “The Ter Haak implementation truly illustrates Tideworks’ commitment to providing multipurpose terminals with innovative solutions that meet their complex needs as well as advanced technology to improve efficiency of operations.”
