  • Operations begin at Rotterdam's new oil storage facility

Rotterdam Port’s Botlek Tank Terminal, a new oil-storage facility, has officially started operations following the completion of the first phase of construction.

The terminal, built on the former site of the Maas grain silo, is a joint venture between HES Beheer NV and Noble Group Ltd. (NOBL).

Botlek has the capacity to store 200,000 cubic meters (52.8 million gallons) of both petroleum products and cooking oil.

The first phase of the project cost around US$92 million, according to the Port of Rotterdam Authority.

For the second phase of the project the oil terminal’s capacity will be increased to 700,000 cubic meters, which will involve reclaiming 4.3 hectares of land adjacent to the current site.
