Coastal and Marine Operators (CAMO) will host a formal lunch where it will share details of a new pipeline hazard avoidance initiative that utilises a solution created by PortVision.
PortVision, a maritime business systems provider, has created a service which alerts vessels that are skirting close to port infastructure.
The new initiative transmits AIS safety messages directly to vessels.
Marine pipeline protection has become increasingly important, with the average incident now costing at least US$1 million to repair.
PortVision’s AIS-based vessel-tracking service enables organisations to monitor vessels in every zone of interest where they may threaten nearby infrastructure.
PortVision’s Director of Maritime Operations Jason Tieman said: “Our overall goal is to provide vessel operators with an extra layer of awareness when operating in close proximity to critical infrastructure that could be impacted by them.
“This automated alert will be a powerful tool for saving lives, protecting the environment, and keeping commerce flowing.”
Over the last two decades, marine pipeline accidents have been responsible for dozens of deaths and hundreds of millions of dollars in infrastructure damage.
