In May this year the Danish Port of Odense recieved the delivery of a new LHM 550 Liebherr mobile harbor crane. With its impressive total height of 74 meters the crane is more than twice as high as the famous Round Tower in Copenhagen.
The LHM 550, which is equipped with the Pactronic® hybrid drive system, is able to lift up to 150 tonnes in hook operation, and is able to handle all types of general cargo, containers and bulk commodities
The crane is being operated at the Odense Port Terminal Lindø, which is one of Denmark’s most central transport areas for heavy and voluminous cargo, and has recently passed its trial period.
“Once each month our big scrap ship arrives to Odense Port Terminal and loads 30,000 tonnes metal scrap. In the past we had to spend 3 days and nights on this job, but with the new Liebherr LHM 550 we can make it in 2 days and nights," said Ole Kristiansen, Production Manager of H.J. Hansen – one of the leading recycling companies in Denmark.
"Moreover the mobility and outreach of the crane give us some quite new and flexible possibilities to place the scrap heaps strategically on the harbor areas”, added Mr Kristiansen.
The Liebherr Group recently reported strong growth in all sectors during the 2010 financial year, but the largest growth was seen within the company's maritime crane division, as PTI reported last month. According to the company's website the sector saw revenues increase by 9.2% or € 61.6 million to € 729.6 million during 2010.
