Nicom Maritime, a division of Halifax-based Nicom IT Solutions, has been awarded a contract to install a container dwell time management system at the Virginia International Terminals (VIT) in Norfolk, Virginia.
The contract at Virginia Port, the fifth largest port in the United States, is the latest of a number of recent software engineering contracts at seaports won by Nicom.
Nicom Maritime has added three other seaports to its list of clients in the past year, the Port of Saint John’s, Newfoundland, the Hamilton Port Authority, and the Laurentian Pilotage Authority.
“Our work in the seaport industry has been the catalyst that has allowed Nicom to grow beyond Atlantic Canada,” says Pat d’Entremont, Partner at Nicom.
“With new clients in the United States and throughout Canada, we are seeing growth that we expect will continue for years to come.”
VIT is a 576 acre terminal boasting 4,000 linear feet of berth and 3.3 miles of on-site rail with links to NS and CSX.
The terminal has an annual capacity of 1.4 million TEUs, with room for further expansion.
