Mooring vessels using ropes is a time-tested tradition going back thousands of years. But, as the saying goes, if it ain’t broke, why fix it? “Ropes have a tendency to snap. They need to be man-handled; there’s no good way of automating the attachment of ropes for ships,” says Patrick Rosenwald, MD of Cavotec’s MoorMaster automated mooring Centre of Excellence.
Fendercare Marine has recently completed the delivery of 36 mooring buoys to Serco under their Marine Services contract awarded to Serco by the UK Ministry of Defence. Signed in 2008, FenderCare has a 5-year LTA in place with international services provider Serco. Tideland Signal has supplied a range of high-performance LED-based warning lights for a major repair and maintenance project on aids to navigation along the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria. The project was carried out by a local company Alfori Ltd. on behalf of the Bulgarian State, which involved the refurbishment of a number of lighthouses and shore beacons at Burgas, Nesebar, Primorsko, Rossenets, Tsarevo, Ahtopol, Kavarna and Balchik.
A major Australian contract will see TTS supply a specialised linkspan serving a liquefied natural gas plant off the country’s east coast. The order for the linkspan is with civil contractor Golding for the development of a construction dock on Curtis Island outside Gladstone, north of Brisbane. Leading international ferry operator Stena Line UK, has placed an order with TTS Port Equipment AB for the manufacture and installation of a passenger gangway and semi-automatic mooring system for its Belfast terminal.
Atlas Elektronik has completed the delivery of the coastal surveillance system, which has been ordered by the Bulgarian Ministry of Finance regarding the completion of the Bulgarian obligations towards the Schengen agreement of the European Union. Whitehaven harbour, Cumbria, UK has installed a MaxLED 400 high-performance medium range LED-based warning light, supplied by Tideland Signal, to mark the harbour's north pier. Mounted on a former lighthouse structure dating back to 1841, the new LED lantern replaces a conventional incandescent beacon. It shows a red light with a five-second flash and has a night time visual range of 9NM.
