Asia-US rates set to rise as container lines respond to industry losses
Shipping companies are set to respond to industry-wide losses, caused by over capacity and price wars, by increasing rates on the Asia-US trade lanes. From January 1st, 15 of the world’s shipping companies, including Maersk Line, CMA CGM and Hapag-Lloyd, are proposing a levy of at least US$400 on each forty foot container as a short-term solution ahead of mandatory annual contract negotiations, says the Transpacific Stabilization Agreement.

CMA CGM vessels to call at Russia’s VSC terminal
Vostochnaya Stevedoring Company LLC (a Global Ports group company) is now in the rotation of an international container service of CMA CGM. The first vessel of the service – a 1,085-TEU Svendborg Strait – berthed at the VSC terminal on 10 September, with vessels of the service set to call at the VSC terminal on a weekly basis.

CMA CGM to enhance Gulf Bridge Express service
CMA CGM, the French ocean carrier, has announced that it is to enhance its Gulf Bridge Express service, which links the Gulf of Mexico, Mexico and the Caribbean. The service will now make additional calls at New Orleans and Puerto Cabello in Venezuela as part of its rotation.
