Concerns have been expressed by the Shipping Association of Jamaica (SAJ) regarding the Jamaican government’s lack of transparency in trying to sell off the Kingston Container Terminal (KCT).

The SAJ called for Jamaican private investors to be treated the same as prospective foreign investors, according to Hellenic Shipping News.

The SAJ also added that it does not support the idea of a ‘fire sale’, despite being supportive of the entire privatisation process.

The Shipping Association of Jamaica said: “KCT is currently an international hub port and the government should seek a guarantee that the terminal will continue to be operated as such, to ensure that it serves a dynamic role in helping to develop the government’s logistics hub project.”

In other news, PTI recently reported that Vietnam is planning to privatise its ports by attracting more private sector investment.
