In a bid to counter terrorist attacks, the Ghana Ports and Harbour Authority has announced that it will be looking to implement drone technology, which it believes will help to maintain its leadership as a key port in the region, according to Ghanaweb.com.
Paul Asare, Corporate, Marketing and Public Affairs Manager of the GPHA, said: “The drones will be flying over the ports.
“With the enhanced security systems like CCTV Cameras, Jade master terminal and we are even adding surveillance with drones in the air. There is no way anybody can beat the system to go and stow away.”

This follows news that leading shipping line Maersk had made progress in utilising drone technology for the transportation of small cargo shipments.
The company was able to transport a small amount of goods from shore to ship and effectively drop the package five metres from the deck.
Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Chairman and CEO of DP World, recently said that there may not be any need for ports in the future.
The reason for this was that drone transport would be a focal point for ‘smart trade’ and those goods could be more directly delivered to the end customer.
The shipbuilding industry is also seeing the potential for drones to improve operations as they could be ideal for assisting with various construction stages, such as inspection.
