The UAE Port of Jebel Ali, Dubai, has welcomed two mega vessels per week in the last fortnight, as the port continues to reinforce its efforts to meet growing customer demands in the Emirate state.
DP World's flagship port is often visited by so called mega vessels but the occurance of four in two weeks was seen as a welcome coincidence.
Within the space of ten hours Jebel Ali saw the ships, MSC Beatrice and MSC Lauren arrive at the port, just a week after the MSC Daniella and the MSC Bettina visited the mega Gulf State port.
All four vessels are owned by the Austria's Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), with each vessels' capacity ranges from 12,500 to 14,000 TEU, and measuring over 366 meters.
“The visits to Dubai by four of the world’s largest container ships within a short span of time underscore the confidence of the shipping industry in our service capabilities and, more importantly, the return of confidence to the local and regional economy," said Mohammed Al Muallem, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of DP World’s UAE Region.
"We commend the excellent work done by Jebel Ali Port’s operation managers and workforce in efficiently handling the challenges posed by the simultaneous port calls made by the MSC family,” Mohammed Al Muallem said.
The senior Jebel Ali management team ensured that the handling of the vessels were met with meticulous planning, including using Super Post Panamax (SPP) cranes with twin and tandem capabilities to ensure premium turnaround times, according to the DP World website.
