DP World Chairman HE Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem has welcomed visiting British Transport Minister, Mike Penning MP to DP World’s head office in Jebel Ali, Dubai.

The two sides discussed DP World’s London Gateway project and the latest developments surrounding the new port and what is set to become Europe’s largest logistics park.

Mr Penning was a guest of honor at the announcement at London Gateway last month of the fourth quarter 2013 opening date of the huge project, where he spoke about the importance of London Gateway to the UK and to his home county, Essex.

Mr Penning toured Jebel Ali Port and free zone, which is the model for London Gateway, observing the modern facilities, expertise and operational efficiencies at DP World’s flagship.

“I was delighted to have the opportunity of seeing for myself the impressive Jebel Ali Port and discussing progress on the London Gateway port and logistics centre,” said British Transport Minister Mike Penning.

“This is an exciting project for Britain, and a clear demonstration of confidence in the long term prospects for growth in world trade and in our own economy,” the Minister added.

The talks in the UAE capital were attended by Jamal Majid Bin Thaniah, Vice Chairman, DP World and Group CEO Port & Free Zone World, Mohammed Sharaf, Chief Executive Officer, DP World, and other senior officials and British delegate.

Earlier this month, DP World reported third quarter volumes of 14.4 million TEU for 2011, representing a 10 percent increase over the same period in 2010.
