In a bid to capitalise on greater flexibility and divergence, with the help of a local shipping agent Ceyline Group, container shipping line China Shipping Container Line (CSCL) has recently announced plans to expand into Sri Lanka, where it intends to operate as a regional trade hub.

PTI previously reported that shipping line CMA CGM had created a hub close to the Panama Canal in a bid to prepare itself for the completion of the Panama Canal expansion project.

As reported by the Daily Mirror LK, Hemantha Jayanetti, Chairman of the Ceyline Group, said: “They have been expanding, so they are promoting Colombo as a hub for the Indian subcontinent. Earlier, CSCL port calls were intermittent.

“They came only when there was some cargo (but) we’ll have four weekly port calls from different CSCL lines in the near future.”
