Cavotec has won three contracts for the installation of motorised cable reels on ship-to-shore (STS) and rail-mounted gantry (RMG) cranes at DP World’s flagship Jebel Ali Port in Dubai.

The engineering group received the order from ZPMC, the world’s largest port equipment manufacturer, and TGPC and will be used to power 19 STS and 50 RMG cranes Jebel Ali’s new Terminal 3.

“Achieved through close cooperation between Cavotec Middle East and Cavotec China, as well as our long-standing OEM customers, ZPMC and Trans Gulf Port Cranes (TGPC), and DP World, these substantial orders are an example of our proven track record in handling complex international projects,” says Cavotec CEO, Ottonel Popesco.

Cavotec is also currently carrying out a project to electrify rubber tyred gantry (RTG) cranes at Jebel Ali. Elsewhere, Cavotev is in the process of supplying similar equipment for DP World’s Rotterdam World Gateway (RWG) terminal at Maasvlakte II in the Netherlands.

DP World’s Terminal 3 project includes the build of a 1,600 metre quay wall and 70 hectares of yard space within the existing terminal area. When completed in 2014, Jebel Ali’s Terminal 3 will increase the port’s capacity by as much as four million TEU per annum.
