The self-propelled cutter suction dredger 'Ambiorix' was launched on October 28 at the IHC Merwede shipyard in Hardinxveld-Giessendam, Netherlands. VOSTA LMG has signed a co-operation agreement with Indian company BEML for the construction and supply of dredgers to Indian end-users.
The “Ambiorix” has a total installed power of 28,000 kW and is equipped with the in-house developed superjetting system D.R.A.C.U.L.A.
With these assets the “Ambiorix” will position itself as one of the most powerful cutter dredgers in the dredging industry.
The ship is self-propelled and is, consequently, able to travel around the world autonomously for DEME.
The “Ambiorix” is the new flagship for the DEME cutter fleet and will follow the positive tracks of the rock cutter dredger “D’Artagnan” which was commissioned to DEME in 2005.
The “Ambiorix” is fitted with a barge loading system. The flexible spud system allows operations in larger swell, allowing higher productivity and working in the most challenging conditions.
The ship is equipped with a so-called ‘moonpool’ which enables surveying to take place during dredging and which, therefore, increasing the efficiency of the dredging process.
The “Ambiorix” also has the in-house developed D.I.O.R.I.T.E. system installed. Sophisticated artificial intelligence controls the dredging process via this system, optimising efficiency and productivity. The extremely powerful cutter suction dredger has a huge range in terms of dredging depth, from shallow dredging at a depth of 6 m to a maximum of 35 m, and is able to efficiently tackle all types of soil, including soft rock.
