The Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) has opened a new logistics port facility, in coordination with the Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC), in the Western Region of the Emirate on Sir Bani Yas Island.
ADPC has been working alongside TDIC in order to develop the new port and relative facilities, which will connect the island with the mainland ports of Jebel Dhanna and Mugharrag.
Goods and services transported between the island and the mainland will benefit from the new, modern facilities and easier access, according to ADPC.
“ADPC is proud to play a part in the development of ports in the Western Region, which form an important part of our remit and are vital to the communities they serve,” said ADPC ports unit vice-president Capt Mohamed Al Shamisi.
“This new facility will help streamline business, contributing to the region’s economic and tourism development.”
The opening ceremony was attended by Capt Mohamed Al Shamisi, ADPC CEO Tony Douglas and TDIC acting CEO Jim Pringle. Western Region Municipality general manager Musabah Mubarak Al Marar and senior officials from the Department of Transport were also present.
“The Sir Bani Yas Port is an important addition to the island. This dedicated construction and back-of-house operations hub will help to enable the smooth running of the transportation of goods between the island and the mainland, which in turn will assist us to continue to develop Sir Bani Yas Island into one of the emirate’s leading tourism destinations,” added Pringle.
The Sir Bani Yas Logistics Port is now fully operational with three roll-on roll-off ramps, a boat pontoon and a control office.
